Rubaiyat vineyard & winery

Rubaiyat is a Dutch vineyard and winery in pursuit of great timeless wines with a responsible ecological aftertaste.

OUR NAME

Rubaiyat is a collection of rhymes written by Omar Khayyam in the eleventh century.
Omar was blessed with an intellect for mathematics, a love for astronomy and a desire for knowledge and wisdom. His epic poetry celebrates themes like the here and now as opposed to the hereafter, as well as doubt and bewilderment due to knowing versus not knowing.

"The mystery is great and and the answers are rare
Wise men have searched but you should not care
Make thy own heaven here with this moment and wine
For their heaven is a fairy tale, nothing but air." *)

This wise man makes a sincere attempt not to reconcile faith and reason but to acknowledge these two poles of human existence, the eternal struggle between heart and mind.

It is our quest to transform our grapes to Rubaiyat wine, a wine balancing art and science. We value long-lasting relationships and sustainable methods in farming and winemaking, all with the aim to create great timeless wines.

OUR GAME

We are a vineyard and winery located in Doenrade, the Netherlands. Our inaugural planting of several classic grape varieties took place April 2010 on a south-facing slope, which covers 3 hectares. The gravity-flow winery will be housed in a characteristic tithe barn, of which the rebuilding is in progress.

Rubaiyat strives to create great cool climate wines. We have to, because not trying would be unfulfilling. To be flexible and open-minded is important to us, especially to listen to teachings that challenge our own opinions or preconceptions. Who we are, we mirror in Rubaiyat. It is our core value to work with passion and skills. Great wines deserve our best.
